The Haven Motel will provide rooms that incorporate diffused natural light (the skylight) to increase residents’ quality of life while mitigating Canada’s food insecurity problem with a combination of accessible food programs. The implementation of the skylights allows their living space to become brighter, contributing to the prevention of residents’ depressive symptoms. Also,  the design splits the building to create the main path, allowing residents and guests to enter the essential communal spaces, such as the kitchen and greenhouse, which allows some hotel residents to work for the motel while living at the motel, providing stability to low-income residents.
