The new vision for X University’s library is a communal hub that promotes intersectionality on a social level, while creating overlapping spaces for social learning and community connection on a physical level. The “fragment” of focus for this new project will revision the East atrium, facing Nelson Mandela Walk and Kerr Park. This key area is a central intersection between the main five floors of the library building, intersecting the ground floor, collaboratories, service, technology, production, and leisure areas. The major architectural moves in this space include the addition of a winding sculptural staircase that penetrates the atrium from the ground through the fifth floor of the building.
