Integrating Outdoors with Indoors

This laneway suite presents an outdoor space in a house with no backyard access. It integrates a balcony in the center of the building, encaptivating the trees and creating an outdoor area in the midst of interiors. Using the long line of trees on this site, the structure of the balcony angles planes to control sight and light to suit the clients of a grandpa (who is a retired botanist) and grandson. The house attempts to surround the grandpa-grandson dynamic, creating private and shared spaces: like a greenhouse for the grandfather and larger room with a desk for the grandson.
